Our Southeast Asian Youth Power (SEAYP) leadership program has officially begun! Congratulations on this year’s 2023 cohort: UNITY!

Last week the youth met for the first time at Delta College (shoutout to Dr. Ricky, program manager for the campus Pride Center and Empowerment Resource Programs, for hosting the program). The youth named their cohort (UNITY) and created a shared vision statement that will guide their project for the summer.

This week, UNITY did an activity mapping their migration histories and discussed topics like displacement, safety, and belonging. Additionally, UNITY read Thi Bui’s illustrated article to talk about anti-Asian hate violence, connecting the 1989 Cleveland School shooting in Stockton to systemic forms of violence like the detention and deportation of Southeast Asian refugees and immigrants.

We’re excited to see what our SEAYP leaders continue to build together!
