CaseyAnn Carbonell

A co-founder of Empowering Marginalized Asian Communities, CaseyAnn is a second-generation Filipina American, born in San Jose and grew up in Stockton.  CaseyAnn is a community advocate for the Central Valley and deeply committed to her community and her career, and has pursued social justice through her work with community-based nonprofit organizations, philanthropy, and currently in consulting. CaseyAnn is a grassroots community organizer; working on issues related to ethnic studies, safety and justice, immigrant rights, and organizing in the Filipinx and Southeast Asian communities. Beyond movement-building work, CaseyAnn is passionate about community healing and our collective wellness. She graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resources and Organizational Behavior and a minor in Economics.

UyenMy Nguyen, LMFT

UyenMy is a proud queer and second-generation Vietnamese-American who is passionate about advancing social justice through the lens of art, healing, and working in community. UyenMy has provided counseling and case management services to the Southeast Asian Community in various non-profits/schools in the Bay Area from 2012-2019. UyenMy also received their Masters in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Expressive Arts Therapy. Since moving to Stockton in 2019, UyenMy achieved their clinical Licensure in Marriage & Family Therapy and has been providing psychotherapy to young children, youth, and their families. UyenMy is excited to contribute their experiences to support EMAC to serve the SEA community in their new forever home in Stockton.

Thear Chum, LCSW

Thear is a 1.8 generation Cambodian-American raised in Stockton, California. He is deeply passionate about serving the Southeast Asian community and has worked with and alongside several different Southeast Asian serving organizations across the Central Valley and Bay Area. Thear is currently a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing mental health treatment for children, youth, and families in the Stockton area and has over a decade of experience in the direct service field. Thear is a firm believer in working towards social justice through the intersection of community organizing and mental health and continues to lend his skills and expertise to uplifting his hometown of Stockton.
